Digital Executive Producer

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Attend local editorial meetings and serve as a bridge between broadcast and digital in the local newsroom
• Train and coach a team of local digital journalists
• Write engaging headlines to increase page views and package content to grow page views per visitor, video-on-demand metrics, and time on site
• Work with digital reporters, site producers, and distro producers to ensure a steady stream of interesting content is packaged interactively and promoted effectively
• Evaluate website traffic trends to inform daily content decisions and long-term content development
• Lead team members responsible for planning and implementing special coverage projects such as severe weather, breaking news, elections, and original digital content
• Monitor major news websites, blogs, and social media for breaking news and trending topics
• Promote news content on social media platforms
• Meet key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure team members meet their role-specific KPIs
• Ensure local team meets daily deadlines
• Create a positive work environment
• Train journalists to become successful in digital journalism

Requirements

• 5 years of experience gathering or producing news and information, with at least 3 years working primarily on the web
• Experience building online databases (investigative, elections, weather, etc.)
• Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style
• Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision-maker
• Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn new technology independently and quickly
• Ability to take direction and implement new ideas rapidly
• Comfortable adapting to industry changes and working under pressure
• Self-motivated with a competitive spirit and assertive personality
• Schedule flexibility including nights and weekends
• Strong understanding of web analytics; experience with Google Analytics and Chartbeat a plus
• Proficiency in MS Office; HTML, CSS, and Photoshop experience a plus
• Required experience of 5+ years reporting for a print or online newsroom
• Expertise with CMS workflow and digital storytelling tools
• Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing, and/or Journalism or equivalent experience
