About the Role

The North Carolina Zoo is seeking a Digital Media Specialist to join our team. This position will provide digital media and communications analytical support for the Zoo, involving assessing data, planning, developing, and executing communication strategies that promote the Zoo and its programs to the public. The role focuses on increasing audience exposure, raising public perception of the brand, promoting the Zoo's mission, and marketing the Zoo experience. The position involves working on the Communications team to develop new online content and interact with various staff and management to elevate the Zoo's messaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute strategies for optimizing digital media marketing to maximize traffic and engagement using creative marketing placement, analytics, research to reach identified target audiences.
  • Routinely capture and analyze engagement data, metrics, insights, and best practices, and use that information to advise future marketing strategy.
  • Monitor online and marketing performance, network with other professionals and influencers, and respond appropriately to requests in a timely manner.
  • Plan, submit, and maintain digital and traditional calendars with up-to-date information on Zoo's events, collaborating with internal teams to promote mission-based activities or programs.
  • Assist with implementation and execution of communication activities such as special events, media tours, press releases, newsletters, blogs, media alerts, ads, social media, and website copy.
  • Cross-train to assist with digital asset management (photos, videos, audio) and support the creative team with miscellaneous production tasks, including locating or compiling images and video footage.

Requirements

  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and perform physical activities such as reaching, standing, walking, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to negotiate uneven outdoor terrain on foot.
  • Demonstrated working experience creating and executing effective digital marketing strategies to optimize audience engagement.
  • Experience managing paid ad campaigns on social media, Google, and other online platforms, including analyzing and reporting performance metrics.
  • Experience creating and publishing a variety of digital content using digital software for editing and managing multimedia material.
  • Proficiency in writing according to correct English usage and accepted media standards, with a general knowledge of journalistic and communication principles.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-channel editorial calendars and syndication schedules.
  • Experience in creating and publishing digital content across multiple platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
