About the Role

AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. With a nationwide presence, AARP strengthens communities and advocates for health and financial security, personal fulfillment, and marketplace solutions. The organization produces the nation's largest-circulation publications and works to educate and engage people 50-plus and their families through various initiatives, including advocacy, community outreach, and volunteer engagement. The Digital Storytelling Intern will join the AARP Campaigns Social Digital Storytelling team to support advocacy social media campaigns, including voter education, family caregiving, and Social Security, gaining hands-on experience in social media content creation and storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, draft, edit, and schedule social media content for AARP Advocates channels, ensuring all visuals are consistent with approved branding and campaign messaging
  • Help prepare weekly analytics reports for both written and oral presentation
  • Provide social listening and “everyday influencer” interaction and support on FB, X, and IG with guidance from the team
  • Assist storytelling team and storyteller content, including vetting potential subjects, sourcing and compiling quotes and testimonials, assisting with content creation, and updating database with social and earned media links
  • Attend meetings, including team meetings, one-on-one check-ins, agency meetings, weekly state calls, and trainings
  • Maintain and update social channels, including lists, video playlists, and other featured content
  • Provide on-site social support for Congressional hearings and other events as needed

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students, and must remain academically enrolled throughout the internship, or have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiarity with creating and editing graphics, videos, and knowledge of multiple social media platforms and content creation tools is a plus

Qualifications

Benefits & Perks

  • The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates
  • Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits
