About the Role

The Director, Commercial Product Development will develop and lead product management functions for the product portfolio targeting customers, working cross-functionally to drive the portfolio including pricing plans, load management products, grid and non-grid bridging solutions, and other engineering solutions. The role involves creating and executing the vision for solution engineering strategy, managing products throughout their lifecycle, and providing subject matter expertise in processes with regulators and stakeholders. The position leads a team of technical product managers, engineers, and support functions to evaluate, develop, launch, support, and sunset products to maintain an optimal portfolio. Additionally, the director oversees program management functions for key customer pricing programs, setting strategic vision, managing deliverables and budgets, and interacting with external stakeholders. This is a hybrid role based within PG&E Service Territory, located in Oakland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the high-level strategic vision for the product portfolio, including identification of key, strategic partners, business case development, product readiness and adoption milestones.
  • Oversee the development of a long-term portfolio strategy for all products, ensuring they meet customer needs, are cost-effective, and comply with regulatory policies.
  • Oversee the implementation of the product portfolio strategy throughout the product lifecycle, including managing existing products, developing new offerings, revising current products, and sunsetting end-of-life products.
  • Create key metrics for the product portfolio for accurate and timely reporting to PG&E management and regulatory entities.
  • Ensure the portfolio meets regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee performance management, including maintaining formal job responsibility documents, individual goals, and development plans for team members.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure safety and ethics compliance.
  • Develop strategies for multiple regulatory programs aligned with customer needs, regulatory policies, and business objectives.
  • Identify and understand customer needs, industry landscape, risks, opportunities, and technology trends across customer segments and channels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related work experience.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in product development and product management in an industrial B2B environment, ideally in the energy industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading an organization in a regulated environment (3+ years preferred).
  • Experience in change management and project management.
  • Ability to build and lead a high-performing management team.
  • Strong strategic mindset and ability to operate effectively in uncertain conditions.
  • Effective relationship-building skills inside and outside the organization.
  • Demonstrated safety leadership and commitment to safety culture.
  • Ability to influence, inspire, and communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
  • Understanding of regulatory, legislative, and industry landscape relevant to energy and customer solutions.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree highly desired.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in regulated energy or industrial B2B environments.
  • Leadership experience managing teams and programs.

Benefits & Perks

  • The role is eligible for an annual Short Term Incentive Plan (STIP) and Long-Term Incentive Plan (LTIP).
  • Estimated salary range of $174,000 - $260,000, with the midpoint around $220,000 - $230,000, depending on skills, experience, and location.
