Job Description

About the Role

The Director, Marketing & Fan Experience at Columbia University Athletics provides oversight and management for all marketing strategies, fan experience, and special events. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director for Ticketing & Marketing, this role supports Columbia's elite-level varsity sports programs, focusing on increasing ticket revenue, enhancing fan engagement, and coordinating special events within a prestigious NCAA Division I athletics environment in New York City.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement strategic marketing and fan experience plans for varsity programs, with emphasis on ticketed and revenue-generating sports.
  • Plan and coordinate major and/or individual special events as appropriate.
  • Create and manage digital marketing campaigns to increase ticket revenue and attendance.
  • Create branded video board content utilizing third-party resources and internally creating custom graphics.
  • Plan and design content for social media efforts in collaboration with the social media team.
  • Coordinate with the multimedia team on special projects.
  • Work closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations to develop opportunities for corporate partnerships.
  • Assist with a comprehensive plan to increase revenue streams, including merchandise and concessions.
  • Supervise and develop the staff of the student marketing team.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and uphold professional standards and ethical behavior according to NCAA, Ivy League, University, and departmental rules.
  • Maintain good working relationships with department members and other university divisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by senior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience.
  • 2 - 4 years of related marketing experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects).
  • Proactive and detail-oriented with strong follow-up skills.
  • Strong communication and technology skills.
  • Understanding of the mission and purpose of higher education institutions.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Daktronics and ANC video board displays.
  • Experience working in a collegiate athletics department in a supervisory role.
  • Experience managing athletic events.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
