About the Role

The company aims to improve outcomes across all stages of care, including early screening, monitoring, and treatment selection for cancer patients. The Director of Media Relations will lead media strategies to create awareness and drive demand for Guardant's early cancer detection product Shield, shaping the company's profile and its portfolio's value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive day-to-day media relations, managing press outreach, responding to media inquiries, and executing proactive media campaigns to increase awareness of the early cancer detection portfolio.
  • Lead the development of communications materials including press releases, Q&As, fact sheets, videos, website content, executive talking points, and milestone announcements.
  • Manage communications around key milestones such as data releases, regulatory updates, and product launches.
  • Serve as a media spokesperson and build relationships with key reporters.
  • Prepare company spokespeople for media interviews and engagements, including training as needed.
  • Work closely with digital/social media teams to strategize, plan, and implement social media presence related to the early detection portfolio.
  • Manage agency partners, providing oversight and information to effectively implement programs.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on media coverage effectiveness using data-driven insights to refine strategies.
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to senior executives and cross-functional teams to align communications with company priorities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, preferably at a PR agency or in-house at a healthcare, biotech, or diagnostic company.
  • BA or BS degree, with a preference for degrees in communications, journalism, public relations, business, or relevant fields.
  • Experience developing and executing measurable, integrated external communications plans.
  • Strong understanding of scientific concepts and ability to translate technical language into layman's terms.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence others and drive alignment across diverse teams.
  • Experience in creating and executing successful traditional and digital media strategies.
  • Self-starter with the ability to problem-solve and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Product launch experience.
  • Relevant experience in healthcare, biotech, or diagnostics industries.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree in a relevant field.

  • Hybrid work model with scheduled in-person and work-from-home days.
  • Base salary range of $210,400 to $289,300 (for Palo Alto or Redwood City, CA), excluding benefits, bonus, commission, or equity.
