About the Role

The Director of Data Acquisition and Strategy at Autodesk is responsible for leading the data acquisition function that develops and maintains foundational datasets used to train AI models supporting various industries. This role involves defining strategy, partnering with industry teams, and overseeing processes to acquire high-quality datasets, both structured and unstructured, from internal and external sources. Key Responsibilities

  • Own the data acquisition function responsible for developing and maintaining foundational datasets for AI applications across industries.
  • Define strategy and coordinate business development opportunities related to data acquisition, including data purchase, contracting, partnerships, and creation.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to establish strategic direction, create processes, and support scaling and diversification of AI datasets.
  • Lead and grow a small team to ensure data availability for Autodesk AI features while maintaining responsible data use within the Trusted AI framework.
  • Create large datasets from existing data in the Autodesk cloud, focusing on quality, quantity, and process efficiency.
  • Develop new data acquisition strategies and processes for new data types and sources, both inside and outside the company.
  • Drive improvements in data governance, data processes, and platform technologies related to data acquisition.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in technology product management, data analytics, or engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience leading and hiring high performers.
  • Experience with unstructured data acquisition.
  • Business development experience with contracts, purchasing, or licensing ML datasets.
  • Experience assembling, analyzing, and preparing ML datasets for training and verification.
  • Strong understanding of key ML concepts and development lifecycle.
  • Experience with privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Familiarity with data design concepts like data models, metadata, data catalogs, and data structures.

Nice to Have

  • Experience defining metrics related to dataset discoverability, explorability, understandability, and trustworthiness.
  • Experience working with external partners to deliver on shared goals.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI or data ethics.
  • Knowledge of data pipelines, including ETL processes, data models, and data streams.
  • Familiarity with industry data standards or consortiums in manufacturing, architecture, engineering, construction, or media and entertainment.
