About the Role

The Director, Performance Marketing Engagement Lead at Genentech is responsible for leading the adoption and integration of performance marketing principles across brand teams. This role involves driving complex change initiatives, designing and delivering tailored training, and collaborating with cross-functional partners to optimize marketing performance. The position supports Genentech's digital marketing transformation, focusing on activating key performance areas to improve business outcomes and patient impact within a culture of inclusivity, integrity, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Performance Marketing expert and business lead, driving complex change from current to future state.
  • Enable A-to-B shifts by implementing new capabilities, coaching teams, and partnering with L&SD on training content.
  • Lead champion team, coaching and measuring successful adoption of changes.
  • Lead change management initiatives with brand teams, ensuring a seamless transition to new Performance Marketing strategies, practices, and processes.
  • Actively engage with each brand to onboard them into Performance Marketing practices.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive training on bespoke Performance Marketing topics, tailored to the specific needs of brand teams.
  • Build strong partnerships with brand marketing to surface needs and opportunities.
  • Document and report on the health of Performance Marketing engagement and escalate challenges and issues.
  • Lead or support special projects such as large-group presentations, trainings, and workshops.
  • Identify, in collaboration with marketers, processes in need of revision or overhaul and work with the Performance Marketing Enablement and Process Lead to address them.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to identify capabilities/platforms to be delivered and leveraged across marketing.
  • Partner with marketers and agencies to identify opportunities for optimizing marketing performance and develop measurement plans.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to leverage advanced performance marketing capabilities for strategic growth.
  • Establish forums or communities of practice for cross-brand knowledge sharing and best practice dissemination.
  • Provide strategic input and feedback to inform the evolution of the enterprise performance marketing roadmap, tools, and training programs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure performance marketing initiatives align with overall franchise and business objectives.
  • Advocate for standardized measurement frameworks, governance practices, and insight-sharing protocols.
  • Evaluate external agency partners' effectiveness in delivering performance marketing objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience, including 6 years in commercial roles (sales, marketing, market access, or customer insights), with at least 2 years in marketing.
  • Experience with ownership of tactics, articulating business problems, and owning content development from strategy through execution.
  • Demonstrated experience in brand strategy development and executing integrated marketing plans.
  • Significant experience in performance marketing roles, utilizing data-driven insights to manage and optimize campaigns.
  • Hands-on experience with marketing analytics platforms and business intelligence tools to analyze data and inform strategies.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and generate actionable insights.
  • Experience operating in a data-driven marketing environment and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Preferred: MBA or related graduate degree.
  • Preferred: Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, especially in managed care or customer engagement.
  • Preferred: Experience with advanced marketing measurement tools such as Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM).
  • Proficiency with web analytics and customer experience tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or Content Square.
  • Strong change management skills, especially in driving adoption of new analytics tools and data-driven processes.
  • Ability to think enterprise-wide, adapt to ambiguity, and thrive in transformational environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • MBA or other related graduate-level degree.
  • Experience in creating marketing strategies that strengthen market positioning and drive high-value outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with incrementality testing initiatives.
  • Experience working with media partners to optimize campaigns based on performance data.
  • Broad digital marketing and media experience, including vendor landscape knowledge.
  • Ability to operate with an enterprise mindset and adapt in a transformational environment.
