About the Role

The Director, Software Development Engineering at Moderna Services, Inc. is responsible for leading a team of software development engineers to deliver innovative products within a Machine Learning (ML) Platform. The role involves managing technical design strategies, overseeing product delivery end-to-end, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand customer needs and develop solutions. The position is based in Seattle, Washington, with the possibility of telecommuting up to 2 days per week, and offers a competitive salary range in accordance with Washington State law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software development engineers (SDEs) to deliver innovative products within a Machine Learning (ML) Platform using best-in-industry software engineering tools and processes, such as source control and code review.
  • Lead regular checkpoints with SDEs, including code reviews and daily standups.
  • Drive best programming practices using infrastructure-as-code and modern TypeScript.
  • Be responsible for the overall technical design strategy and details to deliver against customer needs.
  • Manage the process of product delivery end-to-end and team's deliverables including development of new code, refactoring, and deprecating code.
  • Drive the team to deeply understand customer needs and creatively design, build, and deliver solutions to market.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Technical Program Managers around design and delivery of product functionality.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of the business and customer value of software products.
  • Leverage tradeoffs among aspects of the code bar, such as efficiency versus maintainability.
  • Engage the team to utilize the core or standard library of programming languages.
  • Oversee identification of the root cause of problems with existing software.

Requirements

  • Requires at least a Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and 7 years of experience involving product-oriented software engineering.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in the stated fields and 9 years of the specified progressive, post-baccalaureate experience.
  • 7 years of experience must include managing teams of software engineers.
  • Experience in Software Development Lifecycle Management.
  • Developing high-quality code with Java, Python, and Javascript programming languages.
  • Experience with NestJS, Java Spring, Python Flask, CSS, and HTML technologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodology and Scrum Management.
  • Experience with AI and ML Integration.
  • Knowledge of ML Model Deployment, ML Ops, and scalable ML System Design.
  • Experience with Strategic Product Road-mapping.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (Master's or Bachelor's degree).
