About the Role

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a detail oriented, customer-focused, and motivated Functional Software Project Manager with strong communication skills that is interested in becoming part of our Food and Drug Administration (FDA) team, supporting our customers with their critical mission needs. The role involves working with software development teams, analyzing business requirements, and translating them into actionable plans to ensure alignment and operational efficiency. The position is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence in Gaithersburg, MD and Silver Spring, MD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide project meetings and other client engagements to meet customer expectations
  • Participate and lead customer-facing communication, reporting on sprint progress, burn down, velocity, and story points
  • Prepare and deliver frequent updates, maintaining positive customer relationships and ensuring a positive customer journey
  • Manage timeline and scope ensuring customer expectations are met
  • Communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully and resolve or escalate issues in a timely fashion
  • Understand and validate the details of deliverables as provided by project resources
  • Develop product roadmap with external stakeholders
  • Manage product development using agile best practices
  • Oversee analysis and documentation of customer's business requirements and processes
  • Oversee planning and design of business processes; assist in formulating recommendations to improve and support business activities
  • Assist in the research and assessment of business goals, objectives and needs to align IT solutions with business initiatives
  • Participate in testing activities such as functional testing and user acceptance testing (UAT)
  • Lead and advise software development team and projects
  • Work with the implementation team to develop release plans and ensure product backlogs are well-groomed, prioritized, and visible
  • Assist team to become self-organizing and self-managing to achieve its goals
  • Ensure the team's 'definition of done' is well defined on story, sprint, and release levels
  • Participate in Scrum meetings to represent Product Owner and ensure cross-team collaboration
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to set and manage expectations and timelines
  • Provide transparency to senior leadership and collaborate with design, development, information security, and other teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of related experience
  • 8+ years of managing large scale software application development projects
  • Experience managing projects with multiple key stakeholders
  • Experience managing multi-system projects and cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment
  • Familiarity with Agile values, principles, processes, and methods such as iterative development, burn down, continuous integration, TDD, unit testing, and Scrum ceremonies
  • Moderate knowledge of the JIRA tracking tool
  • Ability to attain a Public Trust clearance

Nice to Have

  • PMP certification and Second level Scrum Master certification (CSP, SAFe Agilist, SAFe Practitioner)
  • Prior or current experience working in a similar role at the Food and Drug Administration
  • Appian technology experience
