About the Role

The GTM Engineer, Marketing Systems at DigitalOcean is responsible for building and optimizing the systems that make revenue teams more efficient and effective. Reporting to the Director of Growth Marketing, this role involves owning critical tools, data flows, and automations that support Marketing, Sales, and Revenue Operations. The ideal candidate combines marketing technology expertise with automation engineering and AI innovation to create systems that power personalized customer journeys, accelerate revenue, and enhance team productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect next-generation AI-powered workflows by building automation systems using tools like Clay, Zapier, and the ChatGPT API to streamline lead enrichment, routing, and outreach.
  • Develop scalable and predictive personalization engines for web and email using behavioral, firmographic, and product-usage signals to improve engagement and conversion.
  • Drive continuous experimentation and optimization by identifying opportunities to test, refine, and scale automated GTM systems, staying ahead of emerging martech and AI trends.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business goals into technical solutions, ensuring fast iteration cycles and measurable impact on GTM motions.

Requirements

  • Technical mastery of marketing systems, including hands-on experience with APIs and webhooks, troubleshooting integrations, and managing martech architecture.
  • Strong background with tools such as Segment, Marketo/HubSpot, enrichment platforms, and workflow automation systems.
  • Practical experience building AI-powered GTM workflows using Clay, Zapier/Make, ChatGPT API, or similar tools.
  • Ability to diagnose system issues, design solutions, and automate processes to improve efficiency and unlock insights.
  • Familiarity with basic SQL for data validation and troubleshooting, plus comfort with scripting in Python and/or JavaScript.
  • Strong interest in AI/automation trends and eagerness to apply new tools like LLMs, AI agents, and prompt engineering.
  • Bias for action and a maker mentality, enjoying tinkering, testing prototypes, and evolving workflows into production.
  • Proven ability to scope, plan, and execute multi-stakeholder projects with cross-dependencies.
  • Strategic thinking to evolve systems, processes, and reporting supporting product-led growth and sales motions.
  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical teams, bridging strategy and execution.

  • Experience in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or developer tools.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience with marketing systems, automation, and AI workflows.
  • Experience with APIs, webhooks, JSON, SQL, Python, and JavaScript.
