About the Role

The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems. This position provides oversight, leadership, accountability, and project management functions for large strategic projects and programs with high visibility at the Agency Executive level, requiring coordination of multiple complex schedules, stakeholder engagement, and risk management. The role ensures compliance with the State of Michigan project management methodology (SUITE) and involves long-term release planning, status monitoring, escalation of issues, and quality control activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight, leadership, and accountability for large strategic projects and programs with high visibility at the Agency Executive level.
  • Manage complex projects that involve multiple stakeholders, vendor participation, and integration with other systems.
  • Coordinate schedules, communicate project status, escalate issues and risks to executives, and exercise project quality control activities.
  • Ensure projects are aligned with organizational direction and adhere to the State of Michigan project management methodology (SUITE).
  • Perform long-term release planning and regularly interact with project management teams regarding budget, quality, and schedule status.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 21 semester (32 term) credits in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, project management, or mathematics.
  • Three years of professional experience equivalent to an IT project coordinator.
  • Experience in managing large strategic projects with high visibility and complexity.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple schedules, manage stakeholder engagement, and communicate effectively with executive leadership.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and practices.

Nice to Have

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and/or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certification.
  • SUITE Certification.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification may be substituted for the experience requirement.
  • Possession of a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) and/or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
  • Possession of SUITE Certification may be substituted for 2 educational credits.
