About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Apigee API Gateway Engineer to play a key role in our digital transformation initiatives. This position involves the full lifecycle of API development and management using the Apigee platform, with a focus on enabling seamless and secure communication for our next-generation applications in AI, Mobile, and Automotive domains. The ideal candidate will be passionate about API best practices and eager to contribute to innovative projects leveraging these emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, Develop, deploy and maintain API Proxies using Apigee Hybrid and Apigee X
  • Implement API proxies, shared flows, custom policies using Javascript
  • Ensure secure communication using OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, OKTA, Basic Auth
  • Manage API versioning, developer portals and apply API Governance best practices
  • Familiar with OpenAPI/Swagger specs and API documentation
  • Understanding of cloud platforms (GCP and AWS) and Kubernetes
  • Implement traffic management, quotas, caching strategies using Apigee Policies
  • Participate in CI/CD pipeline setup for API deployments using GitHub Actions
  • Monitor API Performance and apply tuning where necessary

Requirements

  • 3+ years of IT-relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems) OR 5+ years of IT-relevant work experience without a Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years of experience with Full-stack Application Development (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • 1+ year of experience with Data Structures, algorithms, and data stores
  • 4-6 years of API development and API management experience
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Apigee Hybrid or Apigee X
  • Experience managing Apigee in multi-region setups
  • Strong expertise in REST API standards and design
  • Proficiency in OAuth2, JWT, TLS/mTLS, and traffic management policies
  • Good understanding of Kubernetes, YAML, Helm
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS and GCP)
  • Good understanding of APIGEE components (runtime and management plane)
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder interaction
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and support global teams

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 5+ years of IT-relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization
  • 1+ year in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of IT-relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree in a technical field or 5+ years without a degree
  • 3+ years of full-stack application development experience
  • 1+ year of experience with data structures, algorithms, and data stores
