About the Role

As a Lead Software Engineer in Global Technology at Prudential, you will partner with product owners, tech leads, designers, engineers, and delivery professionals to improve financial management platforms. You will code, test, and debug applications, implement capabilities to solve complex business problems, and deploy innovative products and services. This role emphasizes advanced technical expertise, problem solving, communication, teamwork, agile practices, and continuous learning. The position is based in Newark, NJ, with a hybrid work structure requiring on-site presence at least 3 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build applications ensuring that the code follows latest coding practices and industry standards, using modern design patterns and architectural principles
  • Develop high quality, well documented and efficient code adhering to all applicable Prudential standards
  • Collaborate with product owners in understanding needs and defining feature stories, work with tech leads on technical design, and coordinate with team members to deliver robust solutions that bring business impact
  • Write unit, integration tests, and functional automation, and develop solutions for problems discovered by quality assurance or product support
  • Provide input and coaching to team members on relevant and emerging technologies, embedding learning and innovation into daily work
  • Work on complex problems requiring analysis of situations or data and evaluation of intangible variables

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or experience in related fields
  • Ability to coach others with minimal guidance and leverage diverse ideas and perspectives
  • Extensive experience in Application Development, Engineering, Analytics, or similar fields
  • Strong technical skills in development, automation, and infrastructure as code
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or similar programming languages
  • Experience with development frameworks/libraries like React, Flask, Boto3, pandas, urllib3, Docker
  • Knowledge of Terraform/CloudFormation or similar technologies
  • Experience with DynamoDB, Bedrock, Textract, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS
  • Web development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js)
  • Containerization experience (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Understanding of observability including metrics, logs, and tracing
  • Cloud architecture and implementation experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with serverless-first design patterns
  • Knowledge of ML and Generative AI models
  • Understanding of information security principles (e.g., Authz, Authn, encryption)
  • Experience with APIs (e.g., Kong, Apigee, API Gateway)
  • Ability to write modular and reusable code
  • Experience with Agile methodology
  • Proficiency with DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement

Nice to Have

  • Financial/Insurance industry experience is a plus
