Job Description

About the Role

The Manager Engineering Operations is the technical lead for all data center engineering operations at one or more facilities. They are responsible for supervising facility and data center engineers, reviewing and implementing SOPs/MOPs/EOPs, overseeing general facility operations, and ensuring the reliability and high availability of mission-critical systems. The role requires extensive knowledge of data center mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as coordination of maintenance and emergency activities to support 24x7 operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete understanding of facility layout, operation of MEP systems, and ability to illustrate site-specific system one-lines.
  • Review and approve equipment nomenclature standards, equipment locations, facility drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Develop and supervise local engineering team to ensure adherence to SOPs, SOOs, and maintenance standards.
  • Execute all aspects of data center engineering including operation, maintenance, and repair of mission-critical equipment to achieve 100% uptime.
  • Supervise all MEP construction activities, witness testing during commissioning, and validate operational documentation.
  • Manage technical and operational incidents, including emergency response, root cause analysis, and post-event remediation.
  • Identify operational trends, analyze risks, and develop strategies to improve system reliability and efficiency.
  • Support budgeting, expense management, and procurement activities related to site operations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health and safety standards, and local electrical and building codes.
  • Maintain and track site spare parts inventory and support various accreditation initiatives such as SSAE16, SOC2, ISO 27001.

Requirements

  • 5 years of related facility management experience in Data Center operations or a related electrical or mechanical engineering field managing or leading data center teams in mission-critical environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Proven experience in construction, commissioning, and operation of mission-critical systems including electrical distribution, UPS, HVAC, fire alarm/suppression, and monitoring systems.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure redundancy configurations and associated risks (N+1, 2N, ATS/ST, Failover scenarios).
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding MEP drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC theory, energy efficiency principles, and troubleshooting site mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with CMMS, DCIM, and power metering systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with demonstrated management and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to evaluate vendor work, manage vendors, and improve scope and procedures to meet operational standards.
  • Basic understanding of emergency procedures and escalation processes.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems, networking, and hardware installation requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and familiarity with Microsoft Project, Adobe Acrobat, Visio, or AutoCad.
  • Experience assisting with budget management and expense analysis.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills for root cause analysis and performance evaluation.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of related facility management experience in Data Center operations or a related electrical or mechanical engineering field.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (preferred).
