Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center electrical, mechanical, fire life safety systems, and communications infrastructure.
  • Manage mechanical systems including chilled water, HVAC units, CRAC/CRAH, and humidification systems.
  • Oversee electrical/critical power distribution from utility/generator switchgear through UPS systems to customer load.
  • Manage fire life safety systems including wet and pre-action sprinkler systems and detection devices.
  • Handle communications infrastructure responsibilities such as IFD/MDF/MMR management, structured cabling, and customer space management.
  • Vendor management including daily work and service contracts, and managing all aspects of projects from conception to completion.
  • Conduct commissioning activities within the data center and write expert-level Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve data center efficiencies without increasing uptime risk.
  • Ensure facility adherence to all compliance and audit requirements, as well as industry standards.
  • Train and ensure technicians are qualified, aware of code and standards revisions, and work with the Senior Manager to develop training programs.
  • Assist in developing financial OPEX and CAPEX budgets and forecasts, and model project ROI.
  • Manage procurement processes including scope development, proposals, purchase requisitions, and invoice payments.
  • Serve as a shift manager, overseeing staff evaluations, coaching, and team meetings.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in electrical, mechanical, building monitoring, and control systems.
  • Track and analyze site efficiencies and energy consumption.
  • Ensure maximum operational efficiency through analysis and technology recommendations.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and procurement/billing processes.
  • Create detailed technical procedures for maintenance, emergencies, and site evolutions.
  • Conduct technical reviews of procedures, standards, and policies.
  • Manage site audits and ensure compliance standards are met.
  • Prevent unplanned outages and manage mechanical and electrical system capacity.
  • Provide mechanical and control expertise for the data center.
  • Utilize CMMS systems and ensure timely completion of processes related to SLAs.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support, including on-call emergency response if required.
  • Promote CoreSite’s Principles of Operational Excellence and company culture.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of data center electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications systems.
  • Experience managing mechanical systems such as chilled water, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, and humidification systems.
  • Experience managing electrical power distribution and critical power systems.
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems including sprinkler and detection systems.
  • Project management experience from conception to completion.
  • Ability to write detailed Method of Procedures (MOP).
  • Strong vendor management skills including service contracts and procurement.
  • Experience with energy management and operational efficiency strategies.
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and forecasts for CapEx and OpEx.
  • Leadership skills to manage and train technicians, including evaluations and coaching.
  • Strong technical review skills for procedures, standards, and policies.
  • Experience with site audits and compliance standards.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and work on-call if necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills, with the ability to lead shifts and coordinate teams.
