Job Description

About the Role

The Manager - Data Center Operations is responsible for overseeing the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of the data center's electrical, mechanical, fire life safety systems, and communications infrastructure. This role involves managing vendor relationships, project management, energy efficiency initiatives, and ensuring adherence to industry standards, all while leading a team of technicians and supporting operational excellence within the data center environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications infrastructure systems within the data center.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems including electrical, mechanical, building monitoring, and control systems.
  • Track and analyze site efficiencies and energy consumption to improve operational performance.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance data center efficiencies without increasing uptime risk.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, procurement, and billing processes.
  • Lead and train technicians, ensuring all staff are qualified and aware of code and standards revisions.
  • Create detailed technical procedures for maintenance, emergency situations, and standard site operations.
  • Conduct site audits and ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Manage site budgets, including CapEx and OpEx forecasting and modeling project ROI.
  • Ensure the cooling systems and mechanical load capacities are optimized for maximum efficiency.
  • Respond to emergency situations and ensure processes are completed in a timely manner according to SLAs.
  • Promote operational excellence and company culture, including core principles and guiding behaviors.
  • Participate in special projects and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and support day-to-day operations.
  • Serve as a shift manager and on-call responder for emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of data center electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, and communications systems.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and service contracts.
  • Project management experience from conception to completion.
  • Ability to develop and write Method of Procedure (MOP) documents.
  • Strong management and interpersonal skills for team leadership and evaluation.
  • Experience with operational efficiency and energy management in data centers.
  • Ability to analyze existing operating conditions and recommend technological improvements.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintaining compliance standards.
  • Experience in creating technical procedures and conducting site audits.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, industry regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergency situations.

  • Experience with integrated systems and IT cross-functionality.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for data center operations.
  • Experience with financial modeling for CapEx and OpEx budgets.
