About the Role

WTXL, the E.W. Scripps Company's ABC affiliate located in Tallahassee, FL, is seeking an ambitious, self-starter who is passionate about reporting news to join the team as a Multimedia Journalist. The role involves gathering, producing, and delivering stories that impact the community across all platforms, covering a wide range of topics from politics to features. Tallahassee is a college town and tourist destination, offering a vibrant environment for journalists to work and live.

Key Responsibilities

Develop sources and break relevant stories on all platforms.
Pitch, shoot, write, edit, and track compelling enterprise and daily stories.
Confirm accuracy of information before publishing, posting, or broadcasting stories.
Pitch stories that impact local communities.
Produce packaged reports and live from the scene when necessary.
Help news producers prepare newscasts by identifying the best video and sound and showcasing elements.
Cover breaking news as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience.
Generally 3+ years in related field preferred.
Computer literacy including newsroom computer systems.
Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills.
Proficient at posting content to various websites.
Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company's required insurance limits.

Nice to Have

Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
Experience with Final Cut Pro editing systems or similar equipment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field.
3+ years of experience in journalism or related field.
