Job Description

About the Role

The Multimedia Specialist at the City of Pontiac is responsible for creating content and visual support for social media, government access channels, the city website, and other promotional products. The role involves compiling information, organizing, planning, coordinating, and assisting with activities to promote the city and targeted events. The position requires working with digital and electronic equipment, including cameras, computers, projectors, and lighting, and may involve livestreaming at City Hall and in the field. The specialist will have regular contact with personnel, administration, organizations, and residents to generate photos, videos, printed materials, signage, and other promotional content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist departments with marketing and promotion, acting as an ambassador and collaborating with other organizations.
  • Develop and implement social media posting strategies in coordination with administration and the director.
  • Write effective copy for press releases, websites, social media, and promotional materials.
  • Develop, schedule, and monitor activity on digital platforms, assessing feedback and responding appropriately.
  • Assist with creative digital content including scheduling photo and video shoots, coordinating information/images, and creating/editing graphics.
  • Monitor and maintain social media assets, ensuring consistent branding and support of administration initiatives.
  • Assist with setting up equipment at City and event locations as required.
  • Implement measurement tools to quantify and grow social media presence and communication strategies.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance within area of responsibility and report potential issues to management.
  • Maintain confidentiality in departmental matters and adapt to changing situations.

Requirements

  • Experience with Photoshop (basic skill) and other digital desktop publishing software.
  • Experience working with MAC computer systems and digital camera equipment.
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to write professionally and concisely.
  • Meticulous organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and solve problems.
  • Experience with PR platforms such as Cision and/or Trendkite.
  • Bachelor of Arts with a focus on digital marketing, communications, journalism, or print production, or at least five years of full-time professional experience in related fields.
  • Ability to speak, write, and translate Spanish is a plus.

  • Spanish language skills.

  • Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent professional experience.
