About the Role

The OPS Social Media Coordinator at Florida State University is responsible for producing digital and print content for the Department of Political Science, managing social media platforms, updating the department website, and creating promotional materials. This role involves collaboration with department leadership and requires skills in media editing, graphic design, and content management within a vibrant academic environment rooted in tradition and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce digital and print content for the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the department chair and administrator.
  • Update the department website and administer content on all social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
  • Ensure information regarding department events, news, and initiatives shared via social media is timely and accurate.
  • Tailor content on each social media outlet to increase user engagement.
  • Schedule social media posts during holidays and university closures.
  • Monitor user engagement and insights to assess content performance.
  • Locate, design, and edit graphics, photos, and videos as needed.
  • Design and create graphics, photographs, videos, and text for promotional materials.
  • Serve as photographer/videographer for department events.
  • Assist with writing the department's newsletter in collaboration with the department chair.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in a related role.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including fluency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google products.
  • Ability to multitask, perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment, and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with visual communication principles.
  • Familiarity with web design and content management systems.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or other media editing applications like Canva, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of current digital publishing technologies, standards, and best practices.
  • College-level work in communications and/or marketing.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience or post-high school education at a comparable rate.
