About the Role

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Systems Operations Engineer. This role requires a strong technical leader who can guide a team in performing gap analysis of applications and implementing robust alerting, alarming, and observability solutions. The Senior Lead will drive the adoption of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles across Observability, Automation, and Cloud Engineering initiatives for Branch systems. As a team lead, this engineer will be responsible for mentoring and developing platform engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to provide expert guidance and hands-on support during production incidents. The Senior Lead will play a critical role in reducing mean time to resolution (MTTR) by applying advanced troubleshooting skills and coordinating effective incident response.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an advisor to senior leadership to develop or influence platform support solutions for highly complex business and technical needs or technology initiatives
  • Lead highly complex, broad impact initiatives including provision of high-level systems consultation for the technology teams related to large scale planning of computer systems and network infrastructure for Systems Operations functional areas
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to senior leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommend innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced team members on guidebook changes and lead team to meet technical deliverables, while leveraging solid understanding of technical process controls or standards

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education
  • 7+ years of experience leading observability and monitoring tooling
  • 7+ years in infrastructure (Windows and Linux) support
  • 5+ years proven success in toil reduction initiatives
  • 5+ years in cloud application management
  • 2+ years of leadership experience

Nice to Have

  • Focused on risk mitigation in Cash Vault and Check Processing environments
  • Strong understanding of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) model
  • Ability to troubleshoot the network stack, operating system stack and middleware
  • Deep understanding of Java applications including how to read a thread dump and use of Java Flight Recorder
  • Knowledge and understanding of AI capabilities
  • Ability to quickly script for new alarms and execute according to company approved alerting tools
  • Ability to dynamically engage and attend high impact production incidents and troubleshoot to resolution and provide immediate incident analysis both written and spoken
  • Set up distributed tracing across an internet topology for full health check and pinpoint problem source
  • Mentor platform teams by training, documenting, certifying, and building their skill set
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emerging technologies, industry trends, and outside perspectives, and communicate relevance to organizational goals
  • Lead proof of concepts and prototyping
  • Lead execution of critical/complex project deliverables
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels
