About the Role

The Power BI Developer at BMO is responsible for designing and developing dashboards and analytics solutions to provide actionable business insights. The role involves working with data visualization tools, collaborating with teams and stakeholders, and optimizing data analysis processes to support decision-making within the organization. The position is primarily focused on business and data analytics within BMO, with potential broader enterprise impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design dashboards and analyses to be performed, selecting appropriate visualization and analytics tools.
  • Identify trends and patterns to address business questions and provide insights through reporting and data visualization techniques.
  • Build various reporting dashboards using data extraction, data cleaning, and data visualization techniques.
  • Provide value through insights, reporting, and data visualization, ensuring solutions are consistent and repeatable.
  • Research and apply continuous improvement in data visualization by transforming raw data into actionable insights.
  • Work with teams, management, and stakeholders to enhance usability and aesthetic appeal of data analytics solutions.
  • Translate business needs into technical specifications and evaluate existing data visualization systems for improvements.
  • Develop data visualizations for large data sets to facilitate intuitive presentation to decision makers.
  • Document data flow, systems, and processes to improve design, implementation, and management.
  • Develop tools and deliver training for reporting tools and self-serve analytics to non-analytical users.
  • Exercise judgment to diagnose and solve problems within given rules, working independently on complex tasks.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven experience with Power BI, including creating, managing, and publishing data sources and dashboards.
  • Intermediate to advanced DAX skills such as creating measures, leveraging variables, and managing filters.
  • Experience creating calculated fields and tables, and tuning data source design for performance.
  • Proven experience with Power BI visualizations, including creating advanced charts, maximizing interactivity, and managing filters.
  • Experience creating and leveraging parameters, bookmarks, and templates in Power BI.
  • 5+ years of proven experience with SAS, including connecting to databases, data transformations, and automating processes.
  • Foundational skills in technical design optimization, data visualization, storytelling, data mining, and problem solving.
  • Intermediate skills in insights design, reporting, communication, collaboration, and analytical problem solving.
  • Typically 4-6 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree or equivalent education and experience.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with automating data processes and scheduling in SAS.
  • Strong communication skills for training and collaboration.
  • Experience with other data visualization or analytics tools.

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
