About the Role

This individual contributor position is responsible for leading analytical projects on identifying business opportunities, answering business questions, and developing business solutions. The team member will need to understand business needs and create research and implementation plans using data, statistical models, and machine learning techniques. They will work closely with cross-functional teams including software engineers, data analysts, and product leaders, and will independently lead projects and mentor junior members of the data science team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with different business departments such as Product, Underwriting, Claims, Sales Development, Marketing, and Customer Experience to understand business processes and needs.
  • Identify and independently lead business opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Leverage various data sources, statistical and machine learning algorithms, and automated processes to enhance business decision-making.
  • Create reviews and lead discussions with colleagues and managers regarding findings and solutions.
  • Drive data support on projects and collaborate with business teams on solution implementation through business or IT processes.
  • Create monitoring procedures and reports for implemented projects, review results, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Research new data sources and infrastructure, create documentation and best practices for data access, and develop data repositories to meet business needs.
  • Review data for accuracy and optimize data retrieval methods.
  • Prepare reports, graphs, and charts based on research and analysis, and develop dynamic reports and dashboards.
  • Create procedures to automate analysis and streamline processes to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Answer ad hoc questions from the business related to reports and analysis.
  • Create presentations to communicate findings, solutions, and recommendations, and lead meetings to present these insights.
  • Mentor junior team members, provide training on tools and business insights, validate their results, and conduct code reviews.
  • Establish and maintain a highly automated CI/CD pipeline from raw data to machine learning models.
  • Attend full-time work schedule of at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in math, statistics, computer science, or related fields; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 6 years of experience in data mining and statistical analysis.
  • At least 6 years experience with SQL and statistical software packages such as Python, R, SAS.
  • At least 6 years experience working as a data scientist or similar role with proven skills in data processing, predictive modeling, and machine learning.
  • At least 3 years of experience in P&C insurance or related field.
  • Experience leading projects in group settings and mentoring peers or interns.
  • Strong skills in data mining, machine learning, programming, and optimization.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud-based analytics environments, including AWS and related infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, and other programming languages at an expert level.
  • Ability to work with large structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Experience in predictive modeling, model validation, and text analytics techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GitHub or other cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of creating and explaining meaningful graphs and presentations.
  • Familiarity with creating automated procedures to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
