Key Responsibilities

  • Support product and engineering teams for CarGurus' online retail experience.
  • Utilize SQL expertise to conduct exploratory empirical analyses that bridge disparate data sources to quantify product performance, user behavior, and market trends.
  • Distill unstructured 'big data' into actionable insights.
  • Review A/B experimentation, advising engineers and product managers on data points to collect, sample sizes, metrics, robustness of findings, and success or failure of changes.
  • Provide technical guidance on improving A/B testing tools, algorithms, and automated processes.
  • Advocate for data-driven product innovations aligned with high-level company strategy in partnership with Product/Engineering teams.
  • Participate in brainstorming and planning discussions across the organization.
  • Generate metrics to measure business success and condense challenges into concrete calculations.
  • Build intuitive dashboards and visual monitoring tools for decision-making by senior stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex quantitative findings in easily digestible terms to company leadership.
  • Create new data assets and build automated transformations.
  • Partner with Data Engineering teams to optimize, integrate, and distill large raw datasets and metadata.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Completion of a university-level course, research project, internship, or thesis in SQL.
  • Experience with statistical programming, including R, Stata, SAS, or Python.
  • Knowledge of core statistical concepts, including regression, significance testing, omitted variable bias, and independence/dependence.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms, including PowerBI.
  • Experience with data modeling and analysis of user behavior.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data architecture and core data modeling, especially user clickstream logging.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields.
  • Completion of coursework or projects in SQL, statistical programming, and data analysis.
