The position of Project Controls Specialist II or Sr Project Controls Specialist is responsible for developing analytical systems for routine project controls assignments including complex aspects of individual project estimating, budgeting, forecasting, change analysis, and cost control. This role supports project managers and supervisors, leads or reviews project controls status, and mentors junior staff, requiring proficiency in project controls principles and software tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and generate periodic project controls communications and routine analytics for business unit needs.
  • Lead data collection, verification, validation, and analysis to support project controls communications.
  • Distribute and archive project controls reports as appropriate.
  • Provide presentation-quality reports and communications to project and management teams, and present when needed.
  • Lead and perform change control activities, including tracking, managing, assessing, gaining approval, and distributing change requests, notices, or orders in compliance with standards and contracts.
  • Support team in audit reviews and communications.
  • Coordinate project controls benchmarking and self-assessment initiatives, including scheduling and addressing performance gaps.
  • Develop and maintain project control methodologies such as Work Breakdown Structures, cost estimates, cash flow tracking systems, change control management, and communication processes.
  • Support systems to track and communicate project status, perform analyses, and manage project estimates describing scope and cost details.
  • Collaborate in the development of project estimates ensuring scope, materials, resources, labor, equipment, engineering, contract costs, industry data, and risks are addressed.
  • Maintain effective relationships with customers, support resolution of quality issues, and complete assignments within budgets and schedules.

Requirements

  • For Project Controls Specialist II: Associates degree in Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Business or related field AND two (2) years of related work experience, or High School/GED AND five (5) years of related work experience.
  • For Senior Project Controls Specialist: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Finance, Project Management or related field AND five (5) years of related work experience, or High School/GED AND nine (9) years of related work experience.
  • Proficiency/expertise with project management, project controls concepts, computer applications, and analytics.
  • Strong collaborative team skills.
  • Working knowledge of project controls principles and associated software tools.

Nice to Have

  • Masters degree in Project Management, Business Administration or Finance.
  • Project Management Professional and/or Certified Associate of Project Management and/or AACE certifications (PSP, CEP, CCC, EVP, PMI-SP).
  • Experience with software such as MS Project/MS Office Suite, Primavera, Business Objects, Passport, PowerPlan, Emax, Peoplesoft.
  • Knowledge of risk management tools and Monte Carlo analysis.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelors degree as specified in requirements.
  • Relevant work experience as specified in requirements.
