About the Role

The Project Developer III - Solar will collaborate with various teams to facilitate the effective implementation of solar and energy storage technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists with project engineering for large portfolio of K-12, commercial, industrial, and government solar, energy storage, and EV projects.
  • Analyzes project constraints, evaluates site conditions, performs constructability due diligence, develops engineering scope of work, and determines PV array and electrical equipment locations.
  • Works with local jurisdictions to implement location-specific requirements.
  • Performs job walks to gather site-specific project information and identify potential issues.
  • Performs analyses of utility rate tariffs and generates annual financial projections for each state in the region.
  • Optimizes project-specific design deliverables, including system sizing, equipment selection, layout configuration, and energy production analysis.
  • Creates and manages code-compliant electrical diagrams for interconnection applications.
  • Develops preliminary electrical drawing sets on AutoCAD, including site plans, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Reviews utility pre-screen reports, system impact studies, and interconnection service agreements.
  • Ensures project success through collaboration with engineers, AHJ plan checkers, project managers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides technical support to development, procurement, construction, and O&M departments.
  • Reviews and revises scopes of work for subcontractors and understands trade requirements.
  • Supports project teams in developing cost estimates and ensuring project scope achieves guaranteed savings and performance metrics.
  • Participates in subcontract scope reviews and prepares project and policy presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; or 4+ years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven or more years of experience performing PV system design and engineering.
  • Experience designing grid-connected PV systems with a minimum of 1MW development or design across ten or more projects.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Helioscope, Energy Toolbase, and PVsyst.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
  • Highly knowledgeable in behind-the-meter distributed energy applications including solar, energy storage, EV charging, and microgrid applications.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, NEC code, and constructability of electrical systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical documents, and business reports.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions and deal with multiple variables.
  • Ability to write presentations, reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries from customers and staff.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and negotiate priorities under deadline pressure.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of PV system design and engineering experience.
  • Design experience on at least 1MW grid-connected PV systems across multiple projects.
