About the Role

The Gender & Women Economic Empowerment Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing high-level strategic and technical guidance to the implementation of the SWEET (Strengthening Women Entrepreneurs in Egypt) project. This role focuses on advancing gender-transformative approaches to empower women in the carpet and handmade crafts industries in Giza, Egypt. The specialist will conduct thorough analysis of the socio-economic environment, design and monitor gender-informed interventions, and ensure the project aligns with women’s economic empowerment goals. The position involves providing technical advisory support, developing capacity-building initiatives, enhancing stakeholder partnerships, advocating for gender equality, and ensuring gender mainstreaming across all project activities. The role requires a strong commitment to gender equality, child protection, and inclusion, with a focus on achieving lasting impact for women and girls in the target community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level strategic and technical guidance for the implementation of the SWEET project.
  • Conduct analysis of the socio-economic environment to inform gender-sensitive interventions.
  • Design, monitor, and evaluate gender-informed activities within the project.
  • Develop and implement capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders and partners.
  • Enhance partnerships with stakeholders to support women entrepreneurs.
  • Advocate for gender equality and mainstream gender considerations across all project activities.
  • Support resource mobilization efforts for the project.
  • Contribute to policy innovation to create an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to gender equality, child protection, and inclusion.
  • Experience in gender-transformative approaches and women’s economic empowerment.
  • Ability to conduct socio-economic analysis and design gender-sensitive interventions.
  • Experience in capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Relevant technical or professional background related to gender, development, or social sciences.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in Egypt or the Middle East region.
  • Knowledge of the carpet and handmade crafts industries.
  • Previous experience with project management or technical advisory roles in development projects.

Qualifications

  • Relevant academic background in gender studies, development, social sciences, or related fields.
