Job Description

About the Role

The New York State Department of Transportation is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Regional Videographer in Syracuse to join their Office of Communications. The role involves producing, shooting, and editing human interest videos and stories that effectively communicate the department's mission, supporting regional and statewide initiatives, and collaborating with various stakeholders including government officials and subject matter experts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Filming, editing, and producing videos that communicate important messages, initiatives, or events to the public, impacting three NYSDOT regions.
  • Pitching ideas and collaborating on all video projects with NYSDOT communications main office and regional staff.
  • Working with and interviewing government officials and subject matter experts on video projects.
  • Planning, storyboarding, shooting, editing, and executing video projects.
  • Supporting the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations by serving a role within the Incident Command System.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.
  • Associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or a similar field, which substitutes for two, four, or five years of experience.
  • Ability to film, edit, and produce videos using basic editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Edius, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Strong understanding of videography and photography techniques and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with and interviewing government officials and subject matter experts.
  • Knowledge of the Incident Command System or emergency response support roles.

Qualifications

  • Six years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications, or an applicable degree substituting for experience.

Benefits & Perks

  • Full-time employment with salary range from $66,951 to $85,138 annually.
  • Telecommuting options available.
  • Work schedule from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday, with 37.5 hours per week.
  • Employment contingent and non-competitive classification.
