Job Description

About the Role

The Office of Council Member Tiffany D. Thomas is seeking a proactive and community-minded Public Service & Community Engagement Associate to support and amplify the office's mission of equitable service delivery. The role involves assisting with constituent services, communications, administrative operations, and public-facing events across District F's diverse communities. This position is ideal for an early-career professional or recent graduate passionate about public service, interested in municipal government, and eager to build skills in a dynamic environment. The associate will have access to City systems, Council workflows, and leadership support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Constituent Services Manager by assisting with 311 service requests, tracking cases, and corresponding with residents.
  • Prepare case updates, community issue reports, and assist with proactive resident engagement activities.
  • Draft and edit materials for newsletters, social media, and public announcements under the Director of Communications' direction.
  • Assist in tracking local news coverage and community trends.
  • Support the preparation of visual materials (flyers, graphics) using templates when needed.
  • Provide internal office support, including meeting preparation, calendar assistance, document organization, and financial reconciliation.
  • Maintain databases, RSVP lists, event portfolios, and internal logs.
  • Assist with logistics for staff meetings and briefings.
  • Staff District F events, including workshops, town halls, and special activations, which may occur in the evenings and on weekends with notice.
  • Support event setup, guest management, vendor coordination, and material logistics.
  • Staff Council Member or Chief of Staff at District F community meetings and events.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions like percentages and ratios, typically acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Canva or basic design software is a plus.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to shifting priorities.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress) in Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, Urban Studies, or related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service and/or community engagement.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preference for candidates with a bachelor's degree or in progress in related fields.
