Senior Cloud Engineer, Financial Data Engineering

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver technical solutions aligned with Finance's cloud adoption strategy using innovative technologies and industry standard processes to implement cloud platforms.
• Craft enterprise-scale technical product requirements and deliver public cloud services, with a focus on Google Cloud.
• Partner with multiple tech and product teams to design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and optimize solutions that simplify access to American Express's Big Data Platform.
• Design, develop, and optimize large-scale data pipelines for processing, transformation, and analysis using GCP technologies.
• Collaborate with business and development teams to support changes and implementations, ensuring effective communication.

Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in application development using Java and related technologies.
• More than 5 years of experience in creating enterprise-scale technical product requirements and delivering public cloud services, with a strong preference for Google Cloud.
• Proficient in application development across multiple programming languages (Java, .NET, Go, Python, etc.) and skilled in driving developer requirements for cloud product services.
• Sufficient knowledge of Linux to assist with infrastructure maintenance.
• Extensive practical experience in resolving performance bottlenecks.
• Hands-on experience in application migration and cloud infrastructure, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Expertise in designing, developing, and optimizing large-scale data pipelines using GCP technologies.
• Strong Object-Oriented Programming skills with a solid understanding of design patterns.
• Knowledge of integrating CI/CD tools with cloud services.
• Experience with distributed systems, relational database design, troubleshooting, and automated testing.
• Understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies including Compute, Storage, and Networking.
• Ability to analyze complex data engineering challenges and implement effective solutions.
• Capable of leading reviews of individual or team contributions.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams.

Nice to Have

• Certifications in cloud platform (GCP Professional Data Engineer).
• Expertise with GCP BigQuery, query optimization strategies, and parsing.
• RESTful API development experience.
• Experience with relational database technologies such as Yellowbrick, Oracle, MS SQL, SingleStore (MemSQL), DB2, PostgreSQL.
• Active participation in agile teams through consistent practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to lead training sessions and create comprehensive documentation.
• Experience with real-time frameworks and processing.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell or Python.
