Senior Director, Business Development

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Lead business development efforts for stevedoring, terminal, and logistics services including container, breakbulk, Ro/Ro, project cargo, and temperature-controlled warehousing.
• Support strategic planning efforts by identifying new markets and expansion opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and beneficial cargo owners (BCOs).
• Collaborate with terminal managers, port operations, and finance teams to gather cost inputs and assess operational capabilities.
• Partner with logistics operations teams to develop optimal customer solutions.
• Analyze client RFPs/RFQs, pricing trends, and competitive benchmarks to develop commercially sound proposals.
• Maintain and leverage CRM tools (Salesforce) to track customer interactions and pipeline development.
• Work cross-functionally with other business units to align customer solutions and communication strategies.
• Engage directly with customers to assess service levels, resolve issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to inform strategic decisions.
• Participate in trade shows and industry events to promote the company and identify growth opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 12+ years' experience in the maritime and logistics industry with a focus on business development and revenue growth.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve revenue targets and drive growth in shipping, logistics, or supply chain industries.
• Extensive expertise in end-to-end supply chain management with the ability to develop innovative, customer-centric solutions.
• In-depth knowledge of global shipping and logistics trends, market dynamics, and industry regulations.
• Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform strategic decisions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak effectively at public events and meetings.
• Proficiency in CRM software (Salesforce preferred) and standard billing and budgetary tools.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize objectives, and determine pathways to successfully accomplish goals.

Nice to Have

• Proficiency in one or more foreign languages such as Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, or related field.
• 12+ years of experience in maritime and logistics industry.

Benefits & Perks

• Salary range from $200,000 to $250,000 depending on experience and location.
• Participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on performance.
• Annual Incentive Opportunity: 25% of eligible compensation.
• Work environment includes corporate office and vessel/terminal environments.
• Travel requirement of approximately 30% to U.S. locations including Hawaii.
• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, except where prohibited by law.
