About the Role

The Senior Machine Learning Data Scientist Manager for Apple Ads is responsible for applying advanced modeling and analytics techniques to enable rapid insights discovery across multiple business units and senior leadership. The role involves leading the development of predictive models related to seasonality, anomaly detection, forecasting, and classification, guiding the entire lifecycle from proof-of-concept to deployment and monitoring. The position also includes leading analysis of business metrics, creating self-serve analytics tools, automating analysis methods, and supporting stakeholders across various functions, all while managing a team of managers and individual contributors in a dynamic, innovative environment at Apple.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply best-in-class modeling and analytics techniques to enable rapid insights discovery for multiple business, cross-functional teams, and senior leadership.
  • Lead development of all predictive models on seasonality, anomaly detection, forecasting metrics for all ad businesses.
  • Guide end-to-end lifecycle stages from PoC development, testing, industrialization, and monitoring model performance.
  • Lead classification and categorization of queries, apps, and discovery of app cohorts using ML models/LLMs.
  • Extract contextual signals from aggregated interaction data to feed into ads marketplace design.
  • Lead analysis of business metrics, their interactions, and framework design on deep-dive investigations.
  • Monitor usage metrics, provide business-based explanations for large-scale trends and patterns.
  • Create self-serve, analytics tools, and data products to enable insights discovery at scale.
  • Automate and scale existing analysis methods and institute new modeling and analysis frameworks.
  • Guide statistical analysis, model development, and visualization of data to understand how advertisers use Apple Ads.
  • Support stakeholders including sales, finance, product, engineering, and senior leadership, often presenting insights to senior leaders.
  • Lead a team of multiple managers and ICs, hiring and developing talent, defining roles, responsibilities, and strategic vision.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading data science and machine learning teams including managing managers.
  • 2+ years of experience in digital advertising and performance-based platforms.
  • Experience with advanced quantitative methods and model development including regression, classification, clustering, time-series analysis, and LLMs.
  • Experience working with modern data engineering technologies and cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  • Familiarity with database modeling and data warehousing principles.
  • Hands-on coding experience in Python and SQL, with proficiency in data visualization tools such as Pandas, R, Spark, and Tableau.
  • Ability to guide analysis across teams of ML data scientists and data engineers.
  • Strong collaboration skills with stakeholders including senior leadership, product managers, finance, and engineering.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable data-driven strategies.
  • Business acumen with the ability to understand and anticipate stakeholder decisions supported by data.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and planning skills.
  • Deep knowledge of digital, performance-based advertising platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Social Sciences, or Statistics.

Nice to Have

  • 15+ years of experience leading data science and machine learning teams including managing managers.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital advertising and performance-based platforms.
  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a quantitative field such as Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Social Sciences, or Statistics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a quantitative field.
  • Additional preferred qualifications include 15+ years of leadership in data science and 5+ years in digital advertising.
