About the Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop below the line campaign strategies and consumer activation ideas for The New York Times brand and products, including briefing in and producing marketing activations and priorities.
  • Determine cultural and consumer-facing moments and 'hooks' to reach new audiences in authentic ways.
  • Understand always-on product communications and influencer strategies, including contacts and media landscape.
  • Create compelling communications strategies and develop press and social pitch ideas alongside social and communications teams.
  • Maintain relationships with journalists and navigate spokespeople opportunities to ensure messaging and preparedness.
  • Collaborate with the media strategy team to build cohesive integrated plans across paid, owned, and earned media.
  • Connect and build integrated plans with Communications, The New York Times Store, and the events team to create earned programming with PR, events, and tangible expressions of brands and products.
  • Work with other brand marketers across campaigns.
  • Bring expertise in activation and influencer marketing to other marketing teams and the organization.
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of journalistic independence and the company's mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of marketing or communications experience.
  • 2+ years in-house activations and external communications, including writing earned-media strategies, and building earned-first activities, ideas, and real-time campaigns.
  • Leadership experience managing projects across creative, production, communications, and measurement.
  • Inspirational creative briefing and strategy with an eye for execution.
  • Editorial judgment, understanding the landscape, ability to navigate risks, and interest in the news cycle.

Nice to Have

  • Talent and creator expertise including contracting and organizing creator strategies for brands.
  • Experience with consumer subscription business or digital products.
  • Experience with promoting events, creators/talent, or partnerships for brand messaging.
