About the Role

The Senior Marketing Associate will develop, execute, and evaluate internal and external marketing and communications efforts on behalf of the Boston Public Library. The role aims to raise the profile and enhance the reputation of the library system, its staff, collections, and services to the people of Boston and the Commonwealth, supporting the library's strategic plan, the BPL Compass.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead creation, conception, and presentation of social media content for daily presence and integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Establish and oversee social media contests and other user and staff engagement projects.
  • Create engaging print and electronic promotional and informational materials that demonstrate consistent use of Boston Public Library's image and brand guidelines in copy, design, and overall feel.
  • Develop and execute marketing and promotional campaigns highlighting the library, its services, staff, programs, collections, major projects, and strategic plan.
  • Create content for and leverage tools such as email, direct mail, flyers, web content, social media content, in-person scripting, brochures, flyers, presentations, speeches, blog posts, website highlights, newsletters, and dynamic displays of information.
  • Provide technical assistance and coaching to library personnel and affiliates on the development of print and electronic materials.
  • Review, edit, and approve promotional materials, ensuring proper style and editorial guidelines are followed.
  • Monitor communications materials for message, format, tone, and content consistency.
  • Read trade publications and industry blogs to stay informed of marketing standards and trends.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors to discuss requirements, presentation concepts, and coordinate creative execution and production.
  • Track and manage external projects effectively.
  • Communicate accurate information about the library’s services, programs, accomplishments, history, and strategies.
  • Participate in data collection, review, analysis, and reporting of marketing and communication performance metrics.
  • Maintain contacts and up-to-date knowledge of activities and programs across all library locations.
  • Regularly visit library locations across the system.
  • Update library online presence and intranet content, collaborating with departments to keep web copy accurate and current.
  • Ensure key library facts and figures are consistent, accurate, and highlighted in print and online.
  • Arrange meetings, prepare materials, and take minutes as appropriate.
  • Convene brainstorming sessions, progress check-ins, and other meetings of the communications office.
  • Monitor professional awards and article-writing opportunities in the library industry and related fields.
  • Maintain the library’s photo/media and collateral archive.
  • Perform other related and comparable duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, or Marketing from a recognized college or university.
  • Four (4) or more years of directly related experience in marketing or communications.
  • Experience with libraries, government, and/or nonprofits is desirable.
  • Advanced user of productivity tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, or Marketing from a recognized college or university.
  • Graduate degree in a related field is preferred.
