Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the Search product strategy and roadmap across Solr, vector, semantic, and hybrid search systems with human-in-the-loop.
  • Establish a clear Minimal Viable Product (MVP) definition and product roadmaps for the 'now, near, and next' that align with the broader Discovery product domain and elevate customer value proposition and differentiators at every stage.
  • Define clear OKRs and guardrail metrics, creating transparency and accountability across teams and stakeholders.
  • Bring clarity and transparency to the work to be done—explaining the why, how, and when—ensuring performance, scalability, and delivery of excellent outcomes.
  • Collaborate extensively cross-functionally with AI/ML, Engineering, UX, Analytics, and Technical Architecture teams, as well as with business stakeholders (Merchandising), to execute the product roadmap with urgency and meet critical milestones while managing risk.
  • Champion a customer and data-first mindset, using feedback, testing, and measurement to prioritize and refine the search experience.
  • Develop storytelling and compelling narratives, and communicate status, blockers, risks, and tradeoffs to cross-functional partners, stakeholders, and product leaders.
  • Evangelize the product strategy across all levels and effectively communicate business impact to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Stay ahead of trends in AI/ML, vector search, and adjacent technologies, developing strategies for Grainger to succeed in Search.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a product manager or related technology occupation, including leading agile sprint teams, working with UX, analytics, and business stakeholders, and supporting or delivering custom software capabilities.
  • Continuous improvement and innovation mindset with understanding of latest technologies, including Machine Learning, and experience partnering with ML teams to drive insights or automation.
  • Experience designing solutions to complex problems and delivering results through building or modifying enterprise internal tools and external websites.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity within a matrix organization and drive clarity to deliver value through scalable solutions.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to use data and metrics to support business cases and decision-making.
  • Problem solving, planning capabilities, creative time management, high ownership, and influencing teams to act with urgency.
  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's degree preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with search technologies such as Solr, vector, semantic, and hybrid search systems.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML trends in vector search and related technologies.
  • Experience working in e-commerce or discovery platform environments.

  • Master's degree preferred.
