About the Role

The Senior Project Manager at BMO Financial Group leads assigned projects from initiation to implementation to achieve desired business results. They ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards and stakeholder satisfaction. The role involves managing cross-functional teams, providing strategic input, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks. The Senior Project Manager operates at an enterprise level, advising senior leaders and stakeholders, and addressing complex, non-routine problems to support business growth and transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads assigned projects from project initiation to implementation to achieve desired business results.
  • Ensures that a successful business outcome is the prime measure of project success, including delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Drives mitigation of execution risks to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Facilitates communication with program/project managers and stakeholders efficiently and effectively.
  • Directs, manages, and coordinates team members including project managers, business and technology resources, user groups, consultants, contractors, vendors, and regulatory organizations.
  • Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor.
  • Networks with industry contacts to gain insights and best practices.
  • Influences and negotiates to achieve business objectives.
  • Assists in developing strategic plans and identifies emerging issues and trends.
  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for stakeholders.
  • Manages and validates financial forecasts and conducts reconciliation.
  • Breaks down strategic problems, analyzes data, and provides insights and recommendations.
  • Monitors and tracks performance, addressing issues as they arise.
  • Designs and produces reports and dashboards.
  • Socializes change management plans and measures project effectiveness and adoption.
  • Manages complex initiatives involving multiple business units.
  • Holds accountability for projects with up to 50 team members.
  • Negotiates complex contracts with external vendors.
  • Takes ownership of projects from start to finish, ensuring completion of all artifacts.
  • Manages overall project budget.
  • Provides guidance to project sponsors on implementation and sustainment.
  • Ensures all aspects of the project lifecycle, including business, operational, and technology deliverables, are managed and completed.
  • Develops project management artifacts in compliance with enterprise standards.
  • Monitors and controls project deliverables, making adjustments to achieve goals.
  • Advises project sponsors on business case viability throughout the project.
  • Identifies project risks and establishes effective mitigation strategies.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, building trust and rapport.
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability for resolving project problems.
  • Leads or represents the project in meetings and governance forums.
  • Adheres to risk, regulatory, and compliance controls.
  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level, serving as a resource to senior leaders.
  • Applies expertise and creative thinking to address complex or ambiguous situations.
  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
  • Performs broader work or accountabilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and/or certification in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management experience of 6 to 8 years.
  • Valid PMP designation from PMI is an asset.
  • In-depth entrepreneurial skills, judgment skills, learning agility, stakeholder management, influence skills, and verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations effectively.
  • Ability to apply project management methodologies or approaches.
  • Ability to manage project and business risks, including interdependencies.
  • Ability to resolve project issues effectively.
  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience, and industry knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and data-driven decision making.

Nice to Have

  • PMP designation from PMI.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience and/or certification in related field.
  • Project management experience of 6 to 8 years.
  • Valid PMP designation from PMI (asset).
