About the Role

The Senior Project Manager, IT Shared Services at Grainger is responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and motivating project teams through waterfall, agile, and hybrid projects. This role manages multiple high visibility projects across various business units, applying project management principles to ensure a balance between agility and predictability in line with business objectives. The position supports infrastructure, information security, business systems, operations, data engineering, and analytics teams within a company known for its innovative technology, customer relationships, and award-winning culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directly manage information technology projects supporting Infrastructure, Information Security, Business Systems & Operations, and Insights, Data Engineering & Analytics teams.
  • Support project scope and break down the milestones necessary to deliver the agreed upon scope; organize and lead project status and working meetings; actively manage risks, issues, and escalations by collaborating and guiding teams to take action; perform delivery planning and execution for assigned projects.
  • Own project management responsibilities for three to five separate projects or programs; build and manage project schedules based on scope and resource constraints; manage and control scope and deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Gather and provide project level estimates and reporting (Status, Risks/Issues, Leadership Escalations) to multiple levels of leadership, with clear, concise, and compelling action plans.
  • Orchestrate project delivery while holding teams accountable for their commitments; identify and remove roadblocks by determining alternative options or approaches to achieve project delivery.
  • Facilitate work across multiple technical teams, business units, third-party vendors/partners, and other projects to achieve project goals and deliverables.
  • Model accountability and mentor project managers; inspire others with passion for good project management; assist in project governance and practices.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of Information Technology Project Management experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in an IT related field preferred.
  • Solid understanding of waterfall, agile, and hybrid project management principles and practices, with ability to adapt methodologies to projects.
  • Experience mentoring peers or project teams in project management practices and procedures.
  • Sufficient technical background to interface with technical project delivery teams and evaluate project risks and issues accurately.
  • Knowledge of project facilitation, stakeholder management, conflict resolution, and consensus building.
  • Strong relationship management skills to navigate a highly matrixed organization and motivate project teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively and manage multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) preferred.
  • Agile certifications such as PMI-ACP or SAFe certifications are helpful.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications.
