Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and enhance critical Observability services, including Monitoring, Logging, Alerting, and Tracing.
  • Develop data capture and collection services using pioneering technologies across diverse infrastructure environments (Kubernetes, OpenStack, Bare Metal, etc.).
  • Design and develop core software modules for real-time and batch data processing.
  • Construct Metrics ingestion pipelines, Alert definitions, and automation for Dashboard lifecycle management.
  • Build and deploy infrastructure components in production environments.
  • Champion all aspects of observability with a focus on data quality, integrity, and availability.
  • Evaluate and implement new open-source and cloud-native tools and technologies as needed.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to support the observability platform.
  • Manage and optimize Workday within the air-gapped U.S. AWS cloud regions, forming the core of the team responsible for this mission.
  • Collaborate closely with our commercial software engineering teams responsible for the overall Workday platform.
  • Partner with the Workday Federal Cyber Defense team to ensure security operations, cybersecurity posture, governance, risk, compliance, and platform security health.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Strong software engineering background with a consistent record of delivering high-quality products at scale.
  • 6 or more years of hands-on experience in Object-Oriented Programming (Java, Python; Go is a plus) and the ability to design systems that meet business needs.
  • Proven experience building high-performance data capture/collection systems, API design, and reliable data delivery.
  • Proven experience utilizing Time-Series Databases and Log collection and management.
  • 6 or more years of experience building high-performance data ingestion software, addressing concurrency, latency, and efficiency challenges.
  • Fluency in Linux.
  • Experience with Infrastructure Automation (Ansible, Chef, Terraform).
  • Production-level Software Development experience including the conception, specifying, crafting, programming, documenting, testing, and bug fixing involved in building and maintaining applications, frameworks, or other software components.
  • Experience deploying production services to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and using containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Nice to Have

  • Strong understanding of scalable architecture and performance optimization for web applications.
  • Back-end engineering experience, database technologies, and API Development, including protocols like REST and SOAP.
  • Crafting, implementing, and analyzing algorithms, with a record of Algorithmic Thinking.
  • Validated experience applying Object Oriented Design principles such as encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and abstraction.
  • Experience developing Code Testing strategies with various methodologies and tools.
  • Strong sense of ownership and delivery focus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Annualized base salary ranges from $165,900 to $248,800 USD for the primary location.
  • Additional US location salary range from $157,600 to $279,900 USD.
  • Potential eligibility for Workday Bonus Plan, role-specific commission/bonus, and annual stock grants.
