Key Responsibilities

Build software, frameworks, and tools required for reliable operations of Box's services across multiple cloud environments.
Manage the stability and operation of several of Box's most critical production applications through application reviews, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
Develop automations, frameworks, and tools for improved platform reliability, resilience, and availability.
Collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to promote solid software engineering principles and represent engineering values.
Participate in proof-of-concept projects for new initiatives and frameworks being evaluated for the product/platforms.
Improve observability as a developer and maintainer of systems and frameworks, and mentor product development teams.
Work with modern cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, Istio, Linkerd, AWS, and GCP.
Participate in product design reviews and architectural discussions to embed reliability considerations early in development.
Participate in on-call rotations, responding to and triaging issues that arise.

Requirements

5+ years of experience designing, developing, and operating large-scale, customer-facing products or services.
Experience coding in higher-level languages such as Java, Scala, Go, or Python is preferred.
Strong interest in solving challenging problems using data-driven approaches.
An SRE-centric mindset focused on reliability, scalability, availability, and security.
Experience designing complex systems and frameworks using proven system design principles like NALSD methodologies.
Troubleshooting experience across distributed Linux environments, including tracing problems across applications, systems, and networks.
Proficiency with cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS, and Kubernetes.
Experience with service observability tools like Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, SignalFx, or similar.
Ability to learn new software, frameworks, and APIs quickly.
Natural collaborator, capable of mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence.
Bonus: Familiarity with PHP, JavaScript, or NodeJS.
