Job Description

About the Role

Box (NYSE:BOX) is the leader in Intelligent Content Management. Our platform enables organizations to fuel collaboration, manage the entire content lifecycle, secure critical content, and transform business workflows with enterprise AI. We help companies thrive in the new AI-first era of business. Founded in 2005, Box simplifies work for leading global organizations, including AstraZeneca, JLL, Morgan Stanley, and Nationwide. Box is headquartered in Redwood City, CA, with offices across the United States, Europe, and Asia. By joining Box, you will have the unique opportunity to continue driving our platform forward. Content powers how we work. It's the billions of files and information flowing across teams, departments, and key business processes every single day: contracts, invoices, employee records, financials, product specs, marketing assets, and more. Our mission is to bring intelligence to the world of content management and empower our customers to completely transform workflows across their organizations. With the combination of AI and enterprise content, the opportunity has never been greater to transform how the world works together and at Box you will be on the front lines of this massive shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build foundational systems required to transform and shift left our cloud operations including incident response and AIOps.
  • Drive the platformization of cloud ops tools, moving away from manual dashboards to APIs and intelligent workflows.
  • Build scalable, resilient microservices and systems that integrate with observability platforms, incident tooling, and ML/AI models.
  • Collaborate with SREs, product engineers, and platform teams to design interfaces and event-driven workflows.
  • Prototype and integrate with LLMs for postmortem generation, incident summarization, and proactive anomaly detection.
  • Influence infrastructure decisions, drive design reviews, and raise the bar for engineering in the reliability space.
  • Mentor and level-up the team by fostering a strong engineering culture and system design thinking.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to and triage issues during on-call shifts.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of building backend systems, platforms, or dev tools—not just writing scripts.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, systems design, APIs, and automation.
  • Experience with at least one of: Go, Python, or Java.
  • Experience working with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, Honeycomb, or GCP's Ops suite).
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture, pub/sub, and incident modeling (bonus: Rootly, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or similar).
  • Comfortable integrating with LLMs or embedding-based systems—or eager to learn quickly.
  • Bias for action, deep curiosity, and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with either Java/Scala or PHP/JavaScript/NodeJS.
  • Team-centric mindset with demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with AIOps and the ability to integrate AI/ML models for smarter, more automated operations.

Qualifications

  • Educational background is not explicitly specified, but extensive experience (9+ years) in software engineering is required.

Benefits & Perks

  • Role is eligible for equity and benefits.
  • Competitive salary range: $187,000 - $233,000 USD.
  • Healthcare benefits and additional Box Benefits + Perks.
