About the Role

The Social Media and Communications Assistant position at the PGE Department (School of International Service) at American University is a student worker role focused on supporting marketing, communications, and social media efforts. The role involves increasing the department's social media presence, developing its brand, and assisting with external communications. This position is available only to enrolled American University students and is a Federal Work Study (FWS) position.

Key Responsibilities

Posting daily to departmental social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and creating a social media strategy and content calendar.
Advising department leadership on effective social media engagement and best practices.
Assisting faculty with social media communications and strategies.
Creating content across all platforms, including designing promotional materials (flyers, event pages), writing blog posts and feature stories, and producing video and photo content.
Supporting special projects and other department initiatives as needed.

Requirements

Enrolled upper-level undergraduate or graduate student in communications, public relations, arts/media design, international communications, or related field.
A Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the upcoming academic year.
Demonstrated experience managing multiple social media accounts.
Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite; Canva).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.

Nice to Have

Knowledge and interest in international affairs.

Enrolled student status at American University.
