About the Role

Georgia State University is seeking a creative Social Media Coordinator within the Division of Public Relations and Marketing Communications. The role involves telling the GSU story across platforms, creating content that captures campus energy, and highlighting the university's academic excellence, student success, research impact, and community engagement. The department aims to build public understanding and support for the university through clear and consistent communication, fostering a culture rooted in independence, entrepreneurship, and diversity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging content across multiple social media platforms.
  • Develop fresh, creative campaigns highlighting student life, university news, and GSU's role in Atlanta.
  • Monitor social media trends and translate them into Panther-approved content.
  • Attend GSU events for live social media coverage.
  • Work with student assistants to produce authentic, student-focused content.
  • Write on-brand copy that informs, inspires, and occasionally entertains.
  • Collaborate with departments, colleges, and student groups to amplify their stories.
  • Monitor comments and messages to maintain an engaged, positive digital community.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries on social media.
  • Track performance metrics and share insights to guide future content strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; or a high school diploma or GED and eight years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong storytelling skills across various formats such as short videos, photos, and tweets.
  • Video editing and graphic design skills; Canva experience is a plus.
  • Ability to stay current with social media trends and adapt them to GSU's brand.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice to Have

  • Two years of experience working with social media campaigns or media relations.
  • Experience using analytics and dashboards such as Hootsuite.
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms and higher education context.
  • Experience with social media content creation tools.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with related experience or a high school diploma/GED with extensive experience.
