About the Role

The New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB) manages NYC's small donor democracy program and educates voters through NYC Votes. The organization is dedicated to making local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable, providing resources to help New Yorkers vote or run for office. The Social Media Intern will support the Digital Team in content production, data analytics, and audience engagement to promote civic participation and voter engagement across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with social media management and support content production, including video, memes, photography, and drafting captions and scripts.
  • Pitch ideas for NYC Votes social media calendar and schedule posts across platforms.
  • Research and fact-check content concepts, collaborators, and trends on platforms like Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, and Snapchat.
  • Support social media data analysis, compile analytics, and review monthly and quarterly social media recaps.
  • Conduct social media audits, monitor voter questions, and support community management and social listening efforts.
  • Research opportunities for NYC Votes engagement and track relevant keywords across social media platforms.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of major social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) and their formats, audiences, and trends.
  • Strong copywriting and content creation skills, including video editing, meme creation, and photography.
  • Research skills for trend analysis, collaborator identification, and voter behavior insights.
  • Data tracking and reporting skills, including analytics compilation and recaps.
  • Ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and support a fast-paced digital team.
  • Basic understanding of social media analytics and fact-checking methods.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with civic engagement, elections, and accessible voter communication.
  • Native speaker of Spanish, Korean, Bangla, or Chinese.
  • Creativity and willingness to experiment with new storytelling formats.
  • Openness to feedback and eagerness to learn.
  • Comfort with being featured in content (on-camera presence).

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree with at least twelve-semester credits in relevant fields and one year of full-time experience, or a high school diploma with five years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent education and experience are also acceptable.
