MAKE A DIFFERENCE AS A SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN As a Part-Time Social Media Intern at United Way for Southeastern Michigan, you will be at the forefront of driving social media engagement through innovative posts tailored for a variety of platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn, and TikTok. Your experience in creating compelling content and videos will be crucial as you craft eye-catching materials that resonate with our diverse audience. In this role, you'll also have the opportunity to attend some evening and weekend events in the local Detroit community, ensuring that your contributions reflect real-time engagement and connection with the people we serve. This internship promises to be both fulfilling and dynamic, allowing you to further develop your marketing skills while making a positive impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive social media engagement through innovative posts tailored for platforms including Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
  • Create compelling content and videos, including reels, social videos, and stories, to resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Attend local events in Detroit, supporting real-time social media coverage and engagement, which may require occasional in-person attendance.
  • Assist in creating and publishing engaging social media content using Sprout Social or directly on social platforms, including selecting photos, graphics, videos, and crafting captions.
  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm content ideas that align with organizational goals and social media strategies.
  • Ensure all content is reviewed and approved to maintain consistency in grammar, tone, style, and professionalism.
  • Design creative graphics using Canva and compile videos for social media campaigns, submitting all designs for feedback and approval.
  • Monitor and respond to messages across social platforms in a timely and professional manner.
  • Use Sprout Social to tag posts for reporting and analysis, and engage with followers by retweeting, reposting, commenting, liking, and sharing relevant content.
  • Track and monitor mentions of the organization on social platforms, engaging with users through comments and likes, and researching context for meaningful responses.

Requirements

  • Understanding of social media trends and best practices to brainstorm content ideas that resonate with target audiences.
  • Flexibility to attend local events and collaborate with team members for real-time social media coverage.
  • Willingness to learn and accept constructive feedback to improve performance.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to create professional and engaging social media copy.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., and tools like Sprout Social and Canva.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and passion for social media trends and best practices.
  • Availability to attend local events when necessary, with support from the social media team.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with Canva and some video editing software such as Cap Cut.
  • High School Diploma required; some college coursework preferred.
  • Experience in professional social media content creation highly preferred.
  • Located in Detroit, MI, with the ability to travel to the Fisher Building main office.
