About the Role

The College of Education at the University of Utah is seeking a skilled, analytical, and highly motivated social media specialist to manage, create, and engage with content across all college platforms. The role involves maintaining an up-to-date social calendar, supporting writing, interviewing, and event photography, collaborating with marketing staff, and participating in onsite activities and meetings. The position aims to enhance the college's communication channels and promote various projects through social media engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control large portions of the daily activities of all social media under the direction of the PR/Communications manager, ensuring schedules are maintained and deadlines are met.
  • Execute approved social media deliverables through publishing approvals workflows, ensuring posts go out as planned with accuracy, including occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Engage with the College of Education's social media community by responding to comments, questions, replies, DMs, tags, and troubleshooting inappropriate content under the direction of the PR/Communications Manager.
  • Manage the College of Education's social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) professionally and consistently.
  • Create original written and graphic content for social media posts that align with marketing strategy and brand guidelines.
  • Support and strategize with college teams to amplify projects and updates.
  • Manage and edit the social media content calendar, ensuring timely posting and brand consistency.
  • Lead or assist with creating social media campaigns for various projects.
  • Participate in weekly marketing meetings and support onsite activities for content gathering.
  • Work both in-office at the University of Utah and remotely as required.

Requirements

  • Four years of public relations experience, including two years in marketing, fundraising, or sales activities, or an equivalent combination (one year of education can substitute for two years of related work experience).
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Experience writing news releases, producing newsletters, and organizing events and fund-raising activities is preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, managing multiple deadlines and projects.
  • Must be involved and participate in weekly marketing meetings.
  • Ability to work both in office and remotely.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, business, or analytics is preferred.
  • Skilled writer with a strong sense of brand voice.
  • Photography skills are a plus.
  • Experience in social media/marketing, especially in higher education, is preferred.

Nice to Have

  • Background in higher education marketing.
  • Interest in social media strategy and collaboration with communications professionals.
  • Ability to act as a host on camera.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years public relations experience, including 2 years in marketing, fundraising, or sales.
  • Experience writing news releases, newsletters, and organizing events (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in marketing, business, or analytics (preferred).
