Job Description

About the Role

The School of Education & Human Sciences at the University of Kansas is seeking a creative, organized, and curious individual to assist with digital storytelling and social media management. The role involves shaping the school's voice across multiple digital channels, engaging audiences through content creation, supporting digital marketing campaigns, and contributing to the overall marketing and recruitment strategy. This internship offers opportunities for remote work with occasional in-person tasks, and involves collaboration within a team to develop social media content, blog posts, and event marketing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and brainstorm social media content.
  • Support key social media campaigns.
  • Create on-brand social graphics.
  • Curate social media content.
  • Assist in community management, social media strategy, and reporting.
  • Assist in the development of blog posts, website content, and other strategic writing.
  • Research and interview contacts for articles.
  • Pitch story ideas in communications meetings.
  • Provide event marketing and logistic support.
  • Assist in editing and proofreading collateral.
  • Perform other communication tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Available to work in shifts of at least two consecutive hours between 8-5 Monday through Friday.
  • Must be at least sophomore status.
  • Majoring in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field, or within the School of Education & Human Sciences.
  • Experience with social media demonstrated through coursework, previous work, or personal experience.
  • Solid understanding of image and accessibility best practices for social media platforms.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Some experience using Adobe Creative Suite.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with writing, editing, proofreading, and researching.
  • Past volunteer, internship, or employment experience involving marketing and communications.
  • Understanding of social media marketing and metrics.
  • Basic photography and video skills (using cameras, phones, or other devices).
  • Experience with short-form video platforms such as Instagram Reels and TikTok.
  • Basic graphic design experience (Canva, etc.).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • At least two semesters left prior to graduation.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours during the semester.
  • For summer, must have been enrolled in at least 6 hours in the past spring or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall, or be enrolled in summer session.
