As a Software Development Engineering Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience and a solid foundation in technology through a 15-week Related Technical Instruction (RTI) followed by On-the-Job Training (OJT). This role involves supporting existing business systems, creating new applications, and working with teams utilizing Cobol, .NET, Java, and C to deliver solutions for clients. The apprenticeship is open to residents within the City of Milwaukee.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business analysts to identify business needs and technical solutions.
  • Design, document, code, program, test, and analyze application software.
  • Support existing applications and assist in the creation of new ones.
  • Develop prototypes based on user-defined conditions.
  • Work within teams utilizing Java, Mainframe Modernization, .NET, and C.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent military experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to deliver in line with defined deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and evidence of progressive growth in a previous position.

Nice to Have

  • Coursework or internships relevant to software development.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and Fintech applications.
  • Understanding of database management and data structures.
  • Experience utilizing Test Driven Development (TDD) and test automation tools like Selenium.
  • Knowledge of .NET, JCL, C, or COBOL programming languages.
