About the Role

Chewy's Pet Health team is dedicated to building innovative solutions for customers and partner veterinarians, including launching services like Telehealth and Pet Insurance. Engineering plays a key role in defining and implementing the platform roadmap, fostering a culture of continuous learning, blameless post-mortems, and best practices such as CI/CD and DevOps. The team encourages contributions to their platform and other partner teams, emphasizing high-quality, production-ready code.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and lead a team of 6-8 software engineers responsible for building Chewy's Pet Insurance initiatives
Review system architecture, design, and implementations, and provide feedback to individual contributors
Develop, maintain, and improve upon a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standards
Partner with the recruiting team to continue hiring your team and mentor the growth of current team members
Drive technical decisions and work with the partner TPM to plan, track, and deliver software projects
Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams
Collaborate with Engineering Management to drive standard methodologies in software design, development, testing, and deployment
Work with technical product managers and product owners to balance roadmap initiatives with backlog improvements and maintenance
Identify and lead team priorities and deliveries within the overall Chewy objectives

Requirements

Demonstrated history of implementing and managing multiple, significant software development projects
3+ years of experience in formal Engineering Management of direct reports
3+ years of experience in Full Stack Software Development as a software engineer or architect
Experience managing both high and low performers, including promoting within your team
Proven delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology
Prior hands-on experience with designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems
Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
Position may require travel

Nice to Have

Experience in e-commerce or Healthcare
Experience delivering projects via Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment
Relevant Java ecosystem experience—preferably Spring Boot based applications
Relevant experience in front-end frameworks, preferably ReactJS
Relevant experience with cloud and orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, HELM, Ansible, etc)
