About the Role

Chewy's Pet Health is on a mission to build innovative solutions for our customers and partner vets, such as Telehealth services and Compounding Pharmacy. Engineering plays a meaningful role in defining and implementing the platform roadmap, promoting continuous learning, blameless culture, and best practices like CI/CD and DevOps. Engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas and code across teams. The Software Development Manager (SDM) role in Boston, MA, involves leading a team of full stack engineers working on pet health and wellness initiatives, influencing architecture, design, and features for this growing business line, with opportunities for professional growth in a leading online pet retailer.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and lead a team of 6-8 full stack software engineers responsible for building Chewy's new Pet Health Content initiatives
Review system architecture, design, and implementations, and provide feedback to individual contributors
Develop, maintain, and improve upon a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standards
Partner with the recruiting team to continue hiring your team and mentor the growth of the current team
Drive technical decisions and work with the partner TPM to plan, track, and deliver software projects
Establish strong working relationships at all organizational levels and across functional teams
Collaborate with Engineering Management to drive standard methodologies in software design, development, testing, and deployment
Work with technical product managers and product owners to balance delivery of roadmap initiatives with ongoing improvements and maintenance
Identify and lead team priorities and deliveries within the overall Chewy objectives

Requirements

Demonstrated history of implementing and managing multiple, significant software development projects
3+ years of experience in formal Engineering Management of direct reports
3+ years of experience in Full Stack Software Development as a software engineer or architect
Experience managing both high and low performers, including promoting within your team(s)
Proven delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology
Prior hands-on experience with designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems
Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (or a related field) or equivalent work experience
Position may require travel

Nice to Have

Experience in e-commerce or Healthcare
Experience using and managing teams that are using Content Management Software (preferably WordPress)
Experience delivering projects via Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment
Relevant Java ecosystem experience- preferably Spring Boot based applications
Relevant experience in front-end frameworks, preferably ReactJS
Relevant experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services, Terraform, HELM, Ansible, etc)
