About the Role

The Software Engineer will be part of the Systems R&D team within the Aerospace, Defense and Government (ADG) Unit at Emerson. The role involves developing software components for high-precision applications such as avionics, communications, navigation, SIGINT, Electronic Warfare, and RADAR, utilizing NI's portfolio of PXI RF instruments, FPGA co-processors, software-defined radios, and software tools like LabVIEW. The position supports Emerson's strategic vision to lead in software-connected automated test and measurement systems, focusing on expanding market reach in high-growth industrial software automation.

Key Responsibilities

Develop software components to address various customer requirements.
Work closely with domain experts within the ADG to build software components, system-level software architectures, and APIs/User Interfaces (UIs).
Design, implement, and test software features and capabilities independently.
Develop tools and infrastructure to improve development efficiency.
Test, perform benchmarks, and document customer-facing reference architectures.
Evaluate feature testing strategies and contribute to writing effective test plans.
Work in an Agile team environment to prioritize work items and leverage resources to deliver features on time.
Follow and refine coding guidelines and provide effective code reviews.

Requirements

3+ years of experience in software development.
Proficiency in LabVIEW programming language.
BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Information Science, or Computer Science.
Proficiency in one or more text-based programming languages implementing object-oriented design on Windows/Linux.
Mid-level understanding of software design principles.
Experience with problem-solving, diagnosing technical issues, and proposing solutions.
Experience with peer review processes and git version control.
US Citizen and/or US Person, required by law, regulations, and/or government contracts with the DoD.

Nice to Have

Understanding of NI software tools (LabVIEW, TestStand, Veristand).
Hands-on experience with NI Hardware Platforms.
Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment.
Experience in RF measurements such as spectral, time-domain, or modulation.

Qualifications

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Information Science, or Computer Science.
